The daughter of Ares and the queen of the Amazons. She had a magic girdle that her father gave her as a symbol of her authority as queen, it's like her crown but much more practical. Story (continued)
All the Amazons were in attendence. And there was lots of food, music and dancing. At dinner Theseus popped the question to Hippolyta. "will you marry me?" Hippolyta thought for a moment. Being the queen of Athens has more power than being the queen of one island. She thought about her new responsibilities to her people. Remembering her obligations she remembered she liked being single, and not cooking or cleaning. So she said she was flattered but not interested. Later that night when every one went to bed, Theseus snuick into hippolyta's tent and picked her up and carried her off to his ship and set sail for Athens. In the morning when the warrior woman woke up and found that their queen was missing and so was their guest, they quickly out the 2 together and realized that Theseus has kidnapped their queen.
The Amazons
The Amazons are a nation of all female greek warriors. They were one of the tribe like women who lived in Asia Minor. The Amazons had a matriarcal society, in which women fought and men did the house hold work. Each Amazon had to kill a man before she married someone and all male children were killed or maimed at birth. It was believed that each Amazon would cut off one breast to shoot their spears more efficiently.
The Ancient city of Athens
The ancient city of Athens is a photographic archive of the archaeological and architectural remains of Ancient Greece. Athens was one of the most powerful and most important cities of Greece during the classical period. It was also the first of the greek city states fully to develop democracy.
At once the warrior woman set sail for Athens to rescue their queen from a forced marriage. Theseus safely reaches Athens and starts the preparations for the wedding. Being just a few hours behind Theseus, the Amazons arrive in Athens under the darkness of a night perfect for an abush attack. The Amazonians make their way to the palace and spring for Hippolyta out of the castle and not a moment too soon, because at dawn they were to be wed. With their queen with them once more, the Amazons returned to their island much more cautious and wary of visitors. The next morning Theseus woke up and went to greet his soon to be bride only to find out that his bride had left. He realized that trying to force someone to be wed is wrong. Thesues then set his eyes on helen of the troy.
