What is conflict?
Conflict Resolution & Conflict Prevention
is a social condition that arises when two or more actors pursue mutually exclusive or mutually incompatible goals.
A general term that describes efforts to
prevent, limit, contain, or resolve conflicts, especially violent ones
while building up the capacities of all parties involved to undertake peacebuilding
It is based on the concept that conflicts are a normal part of human interaction
negotiation, mediation, arbitration and adjudication
Efforts to address the underlying causes of a conflict
by finding common interests and overarching goals
It includes fostering positive attitudes and generating trust through reconciliation initiatives
and building or strengthening the institutions and processes through which the parties interact peacefully
measures taken to keep low-level or long-festering disputes from escalating into violence
it can also apply to efforts to limit the spread of violence if it does occur, or to avoid the reoccurrence of violence
Sometimes referred to as preventive diplomacy
