How and why it Floated
The titanic was made mostly from iron and steel. But steel has a density of about eight times that of water, so you would expect it to sink. However, most of the titanics volume was occupied by air. The air has about one-thousandth that of water. Therefore, the average density of the ship was less than the density of the water. That's why the titanic floated.
Why It Sank
When the titanic hit the iceberg, water rushed into the ships hull and displaced the air. The average density of the water and the steel ship was greater than the density of the water. The result of this caused the titanic to sink to the bottom of the Atlantic.
The Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15th, 1912 after colliding with an iceberg during it's voyage to New York City. The sinking of the Titanic caused the deaths of over 1,500 people in one of the deadliest disasters in modern history.
In conclusion, density had a lot to do with the Titanic and it wouldn't have floated if the density wasn't measured correctly then the Titanic wouldn't have floated. Therefore, density has a very important role in everything that floats.
