SNAP fraud is when SNAP benefits are exchanged for cash. This is called trafficking and it is against the law. SNAP fraud also happens when someone lies on their application to get benefits or to get more benefits than they are supposed to get.

Yes! The SNAP Program is the nation's front line safety net against hunger. SNAP benefits 14.0 percent of households and is a key to helping households in the midst of economic downturn.

On average, the monthly benefit of SNAP is $271 per household, and the benefit money may only be used to buy food items for the home.

Seventy-four percent of those participating in the program receive food stamps for two years or less, and half of all new recipients stay on the program no more than ten months and Fifty-seven percent end participation within a year.

SNAP is the program formerly known as food stamps. It is a federal nutrition program that helps you stretch your food budget and buy healthy food.

SNAP benefits can be used to purchase food at grocery stores, convenience stores, and some farmers' markets and co-op food programs.

SNAP is a nutrition program. It is not a welfare cash assistance program (which is called TAFDC). You do not have to be receiving TAFDC to get SNAP — these are separate programs.

Originally called the Food Stamp Program, SNAP was created by Secretary of Agriculture Milo Perkins. Initially there were levels to how one would receive money. There were two types of stamps orange which would be able to be purchased by an individual and blue stamps which were regulated by the Government.
