The Alchemist Story In the book "The Alchemist", Paulo Coelho, the writer, uses some Literary Terms and Literary Elements like : Personification, Allusion, Simile, Metaphor and Foreshadowing. Simile is a figure of speech that comperes one thing with another. Example : She is a horse Personification happens when the writer make an inanimated object have the characteristics of a human. Example : A tree shouted when I passed by. Allusion is a reference to a period or a person from history or another artistic work. Metaphor is a figure oof speech in wich a comparison is made between two unlike quantities without the use of the words "like" or "as". Foreshodowing is something that happens and you already know it and how it is going to happen. It is like a presage. Example : You are seeing a movie and in the beginning of it, you already know the final. Examples of the terms in the book "The Alchemist" Personification : Happens when the Sun, Wind and Desert talked to Santiago. Simile : Happens when Santiago went to Tangier and there, in the book, there is a sentence that says : " Then, like a colony of worker ants, they dismantled their stalls and left." Metaphor : happens when Santiago is at the caravan in the desert and the leader of the caravan says : "The desert is a capricious lady, and sometimes she drives men crazy." Allusion happens in the book the part of prologue, and happens by Narcissus. Foreshadowing happens in the book in the final, that says to the reader that Santiago's treasure was in Spain at the church that is mentioned in the beginning of the book.
