Transcript of Divergent
Do you like books that make you want to read more? How about the types of books that aren't predictable and are action packed? If you do, then Divergent is the book for you. You will be fascinated by the futuristic 'perfect' world or is it really 'perfect'?
I found this novel very similar to the book 'The Giver'. In the book 'The Giver', the main character, Jonas, picked a role in his perfect community as did Tris, the main character, in the book 'Divergent'. Also, the protagonist in 'The Giver' defies the way in which his perfect community is structured, as does Tris. Both characters are conflicted with the choices they make and try to understand and live within the boundaries of their perfect worlds but end up going against it. Divergent is a lot more appealing than the book 'The Giver', because the author Veronica Roth incorporates fighting into the plot line which make it more interesting and action packed. I also think she makes it a nail biter with the unexpected twist and romance.
Now I am going to read you a part in the book that I found interesting....
I chose this book because I have never read this book before and I heard that it was a great book. I also heard that it got good reviews from critics, especially for the author's originality and her ability to connect with younger readers. The book was also highly recommended by my older brother and mom who thought that the plot line was phenomenal and intriguing enough to keep me interested. Veronica puts a lot of detail and plot changes in the story which makes the book interesting and the reader engaged till the end!
Veronica Roth graduated from Northwestern University with a degree of creative writing. She writes with so much passion and detail that keeps the reader engaged. I like Veronica Roth because she never fails to amaze me with her plot and story lines, which changes at the most unexpected instances. She also wrote two other books in the Divergent trilogy. Veronica Roth is one of my favorite authors because of her fascinating imagination and her ability to connect with teen readers by including everyday life situations faced by young adults.
Before I end my book talk, I would like to recommend this book 'Divergent' by Veronica Roth to anyone who likes futuristic action novels where the characters fight for what they believe in and for what is morally right. This book is a great read for any gender and I know you would definitely find it hard to put it down because of its ever changing plot line. I hope some of you would read this book in the future and enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks.
'Divergent' is an action packed futuristic fiction story written by Veronica Roth. In futuristic Chicago a 16 year old girl named Beatrice Prior was born into Abnegation, one of five factions which represent a particular quality. The five factors or groups that one could be placed into are, Abnegation the selfless, Dauntless the brave, Candor the honest, Amity the peaceful, Erudite the intelligent and one group who are factionless. On a particular day of the year, you have to choose which faction you want to live in for the rest of your life and in turn train for a spot in the chosen group. After much thought Beatrice chooses Dauntless even though she is born into Abnegation and has to leave her family. Beatrice changes her name to Tris and soon meets friends like Christina, Will and Al. She has to deal with enemies like Peter and an infuriating instructor named Four who taunts her during her training sessions. She has to compete for a spot in Dauntless as there are only ten spots available and along the way she has to outwit Peter who is trying to kill her! Tris endures great hardship including hatred articles about her parents and betrayals by people close to her. During her time in the Dauntless headquarters Tris is also hiding a secret that could lead to her death or help her save the people she loves. Along the way Tris falls in love with the most unusual boy and has to make a tough decision which could alter her life. There is something BIG going to happen, what will happen to her perfect world? Will Tris be able to handle everything that is going on or will she give up when she is needed the most?
I like this book because of the interesting plot, the way that the story builds up to the climax and the how the author can express each part with so much detail and feeling. I found the beginning a little confusing because Veronica didn't explain what the factions were so I had to guess and read through the book till it was made clear later on. I think the author did this on purpose so that the reader is kept intrigued and would keep reading on!
