Transcript of Funny in Farsi

Leffingwell Elementary school Vocabulary In this chapter, the author described that American people are very kind. They are very willing to help those in need. For example, on the day that Firoozeh and her mother got lost on the way back home, there was a lady who helped her mother and her by inviting both of them in to the lady's house. The lady then called Firoozeh's father to come and take Firoozeh and mother home. American culture/history Book review Funny in Farsi Chapter Summary Firoozed Dumas, in chapter 1 of her autobiography Funny in Farsi, tells the story of the first weeks she moved to USA with her family. There were 2 interesting things that happened in this chapter. The first is when her mother was not able to point out Iran on the map. This embarrassed Firoozeh very much. The second is when they got lost on the way back home. Both of these are examples of how difficult it is to live in the U.S. when you can't speak English. 3 Character Mother(Naziren): She is a housewife. When she was a girl her dream was to get married with a man who can take care of her well and to have wonderful kids. She was educated at the high school level. When she came to the U.S. she didn’t speak English. After living in the U.S. for a while her English still has not improved much. To like any book, first it should like the title. the title of the memory “Funny in Farsi” is attractive because it should be Funny, and the subtitle “A Memoir of Growing up Iranian in America” shows that the reading will be easy because it’s a social story so the book is within the reach of everyone.
