The Epic of America
= 1st use of "American Dream"
"Dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement."
Changes in the Dream
Modern American Dream = Pursuit of material prosperity
People work more hours, get bigger houses, buy more expensive cars, but have less time to enjoy their prosperity.
Others say:
American Dream is beyond the working poor who must work 2 jobs to ensure their family's survival.
What Has Not Changed About The American Dream . . . yet?
Look forward to a NEW American Dream.
Less focus on financial gain
More focus on living a simple, fulfilling life

In other words . . .
The ability, opportunity, or right to pursue YOUR happiness.

A chance to start fresh and progress toward a BETTER future.

A GOAL/DESIRE that differs from person to person.
The American Dream is no longer about just being happy, instead . . .
