Deforestation - Presentation
Transcript of Deforestation - Presentation
Why it happens
People’s need to provide for their families.
Population growth and overpopulation, and urbanization.
Environmental Problems & Climate
A big contributor to global warming
The water cycle.
The trees no longer transpire water, resulting in a much drier climate.
Reduces the content of water in the soil and groundwater as well as atmospheric moisture.
The human population rely on wood for heating and cooking.
As the human population grows, new homes, communities, and expansions of cities will occur.
Higher demand for wood.
Higher prices on timber.
The tropical rainforests, is the most diverse ecosystem on Earth.
Removal or destruction of significant areas of forests results in.
A degraded environment with reduced biodiversity.
Estimated that we are losing 137 plant, animal and insect species every day.
The quickest solution to deforestation:
Simply stop cutting down trees,
Not a really a possibility due to financial greed.
A more workable solution:
The cutting that does occur should be balanced by the planting of enough young trees to replace the older ones felled in any given forest.
In your opinion what is the best possible solution to end this world issue?
What is Deforestation?
The removal of a forest where the land is thereafter converted to non-forest use.
Deforestation has many negative effects on the environment. The most dramatic impact is the loss of habitat for millions of species.
