BODY OF PAPER ATTENTION-GETTER GENERAL STATEMENT INTRO SECTION OF THESIS IMPORTANCE EXPLAINED THESIS RE-STATED RESOLUTION SUMMARY SUMMARY: STRONGEST POINT ADDITIONAL SUMMARY (OPTIONAL) RESPONSE TO ATTENTION-GETTER "FUNNEL AND REVERSE"
STRUCTURE FOR ESSAYS ATTENTION-GETTER:
1. This is your broad beginning
2. Could be a question
-Questions can be very effective
for your 1st 2 papers GENERAL STATEMENT:
1. Begins narrowing down
your ideas a bit
-Could be related to your
question at the start INTRO SECTION:
1. Highlight your strongest
point in the body
2. Give a hint as to where
you are going to go with
that main point IMPORTANCE EXPLAINED:
1. This sentence may be optional
2. Depends on the complexity
of your topic and/or thesis
3. Complex thesis topics will need
more explanation and/or
introduction BODY OF PAPER:
1. Strongest point first
2. Weakest point next
3. 2nd strongest point THESIS THESIS:
1. Must be NARROW and FOCUSED!
2. Think of it as "tri-structured"
-Outline of 3 main points in one sentence
-Research Paper: "This is the case because...1, 2, 3."
-Six-weeks paper: Statement of fact or point to be proven
-Could also be examples (if that fits your thesis format) RE-STATED THESIS:
1. This does not have to be written word-for-word
2. ALL THREE main ideas have to be re-stated, though to be accurate EXAMPLE OF RE-STATEMENT:
This being the case, it is easy to determine that individuals base their relationships with animals upon previous experiences, their current proximity to animals, and personal attitudes that have been developed through life. RESOLUTION SUMMARY:
1. First step to "work in reverse"
2. Pick one of the main points
of the thesis and explain it SUMMARY OF STRONGEST POINT:
1. Show how you explained it in
the body of the paper ADDITIONAL SUMMARY:
1. This is optional
2. Needs to be used when you have
a multi-leveled topic or one that
is complicated RESPONSE TO ATTENTION-GETTER:
1. How this is shaped depends on
what you used in the attention-
getter at the start of the paper.
2. If you start with a question, you MUST
provide an answer in the closing of
the paper.
