a werewolf is a mythological creature that is a person and sometimes a wolf. Werewolves are believed to prey on people. In different versions of folklore the werewolf is either a magician or has a curse. In much modern literature and film the werewolf is said to change it's shape under the influence of the full moon. They are said to be vunrable to silver bullets.

Tales of werewolves abound in cultures from Europe, Russia to England and from Norway to Italy. Many werewolves appear in some of the earliest literature of these regions.

The word werewolf is most likely from two old-Saxon words, were (meaning man) and wolf. Frequently used Greek terms Lycanthropy refers to the transformation process while Lycanthrope, which is in fact synonymous to werewolf, is the afflicted person. One of the most popular definition(s) of werewolf/werewolves/lycanthrope is:
a man who transforms himself into a wolf under the influence of the full moon. Lyacnthropy is an extreme word for saying violet insanity in which a person imitates the behavior of a wolf. Lycanthropy is a condition where a person believes they are a Werewolf or a semi-human creature. It is said to be a mental condition which is commonly linked to Schizophrenia. With this condition many people believe they are an animal of prey.Usually a wolf a dog or sometimes other creatures such as bears or lions. It is said to be where most werewolf myths came from.
A werewolf in folklore and mythology is a person who changes into a wolf, either on purpose using magic or by being placed under a curse. The transformation was associated with the full moon.
