Meaning and Historical Background
Gay marriage is marriage between to persons of the same biological sex and/or gender identity.
For the legalization of Same-Sex Marriage
1951: The first national gay rights organization formed.
1973: Homosexuality is removed off the official list of mental disorders.
1978: Harvey Milk begins his term as a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors by sponsoring a civil rights bill that outlaws sexual orientation discrimination.
1993: The Don't Ask, Don't tell" policy is instituted for the U.S. military.
2000: Nebraska Voters Approve Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage
Against the legalization of Same-Sex Marriage
Denying them is a violation of religious freedom
*Marriage benefits should be available to all couples.
Homosexuality is an accepted lifestyle nowadays with most evidence strongly supporting biological causation.
*The number of child adoptions should increase.
Most religions consider homosexuality a sin.
It would further weakened the traditional family values.
*Health Care insurances don't want to offer same-sex couples the benefits of being insured because they would cost more money than heterosexual couples.
*It confuses children about gender roles and expectations of society.

DOMA was enacted in September 21, 1996 by Bill Clinton
The following years, several states passed laws in favor of DOMA.
It stated the marriage was only between men and women and refused to recognize same-sex marriages granted under the laws of other states.
It wasn't until this year that Section 3 of the Act was ruled unconstitutional under the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment.

that are very open towards the topic
of gay marriage.
Little by little
same-sex couples are
on popular TV shows such as,
Modern Family, Grey's Anatomy, and Glee.
However, there are also shows and cartoons
that are against gay marriage such as, South Park
and Malcolm in the Middle.
