Table of contents
At the beginning of sixth grade ...
How is technology used as a tool ? Technology is a resourceful tool that is intended for educational purposes such as research, testing, common core, and projects.
how has our class handled the amount of work our teacher gives us including our extra curricular activities ?
what type of extra curricular activities have we been assigned in class ?
We have handled our work and extra curricular activities by working at our own pace. Many students work at different levels and different speeds. Although we have the freedom to work at our own pace, all students are aware that we all have deadlines to meet and submit our work in a timely manner.
The extra curricular activities we have been assigned in class are learning new platforms, web-based programs, such as, tutorial presentations, trouble shooting, online homework, PKP and the list goes on and on.
When we first started 6th grade we thought it would be a traditional 6th grade class with paper, pencil learning. EVERYTHING PAPER PENCIL EVERYTHING MONOTONOUS!!!
Our teacher's expectations for students is to always be respectful, courteous, responsible, independent, and to follow proper internet etiquette. Our teacher's goals for our sixth grade class is to ensure that all students become tech savvy and autodidacts in order to ultimately become independent learners in the wonderful world of technology.
To our surprise we entered a new world of technology. When we first saw the Ipads we were amazed, however, we also felt a certain type of anxiety, angst and a sense of excitement!
What are Platforms ?
How are these platforms used as resources ?
These platforms are resourceful for many reasons such as to complete our work, to create presentations
to research information for our projects, and we also use these platforms to explore.
In technology, a platform is an underlying computer system on which application programs can run or, in general, any base of technologies.
How do we use these platforms ?
We use these platforms to:
create animated timelines,
create presentations such as Prezi's to include
PowToons, and Glogster, to name a few
online homework, Close Read, annotation marks
reports such as book reports, research, Cornell Notes
All of these platforms and many not yet mention fall under the Common Core umbrella!
English-language learners ( ELL's ) use technology in our classroom to help them on their daily work throughout the school day, most of all they use Translator and Rewordify.
why do ELL's need to use a translator ?
English-language learners ( ELL's ) use a translator
so it can help them translate a spanish word to an English word and vice-versa.
how do English-language learners ( ELL's ) use technology
in our classroom ?
what is a translator ?
A program that translates from one programming language into another.
Our teacher has taught us proper internet etiquette, she also has taught us to research respectfully. In addition, we have also learned the suffixes for the Universal Resource locators

How was Common Core implemented along with our study of technology ?
Our 6th grade Journey
"The ISTE Standards also share with the Common Core an emphasis on using technology-not for technology's sake, but as a tool for leap-frogging over lower-order thinking skills, such as rote memorization, to focus our energies on research and media literacy, creatvity, collaboration, problem solving, and critical thinking."

We worked with common core along with the implementation of all the programs we learned in class, such as plickers.
OUr 6th grade journey
In 6th grade we learned a variety of high academic skills that will prepare us for collage. For instance, Technology, AVID stratedegies, cornell notes, crochet, and other subjects not mentioned.
