What is Foreshadowing?
Formal Definition: Foreshadowing is an advance sign or warning of what is to come in the future.
Definition of a Symbol
Something used for or regarded as representing something else.

Use a material object to represent something morally.
What does tone do?
-The authors tone influences the stories mood, and atmosphere

-Example: "Kyle grinned, his teeth were nubby and yellow, like an old barns dog. kneeling on Joe's chest he hauled back to hit him again. - Angry , Aggressive

Theme
And the trees all died. They were orange trees. I don’t know why they died, they just died.

Theme is the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person's thought, a topic

A topic that runs throughout a story
What is the theme of a story?
The theme may be a broad idea or a moral

The theme could also be a lesson about something, the author could be trying to tell the reader a lesson about life

Theme is also an issue or even that is talked about repeatedly or often in the story

Examples of theme
Coming of age- In the book journey from the land of no the story is mostly about the main character Roya growing up and how she really wants to become an adult

Discovery- Can appear in a story when it talks about someone traveling or discovering new things

Death- Can appear when someone dies in the story or many people die throughout the story
Foreshadowing is a literary device that used to forecast things that will happen later in the book.

Examples:
Kite:
Symbolizing Amir's guilt and betrayal to Hassan, as well as his search for redemption and forgiveness.

Slingshot:
No matter how powerful Assef is, Hassan and Sohrab follow the code of moral to stop Assef and save Amir.

The pomegranate tree:
The tree represents the friendship and childhood between Amir and Hassan as they carve their names on the tree. It also symbolizes the division between them after years.
