*1940-1960s: Arrival of Western culture
-After Korea was divided into North and South, Western culture was introduced into South Korea on a small scale with a few Western style bars and clubs playing Western music. During this time, Western music became more accepted, & The United Service Organizations made it possible for American entertainment, such as Marilyn Monroe and Louis Armstrong to come and perform for the troops.
*September 2010: SM Entertainment holds its first concert outside the Asian continent with the SMTown Live '10 World Tour in Los Angeles held at Staples Center in Los Angeles grossed over US$1 million, & took the 9th position on the Billboard Boxscore Chart.
Korean Music Industry
PSY - "GANGNAM STYLE"
November 2012: Top record charts of Australia, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and more than 15 other countries. Awarded the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Video, and became the first video on YouTube to hit over a billion views.
*1990s: Lee Soo-man founded South Korea's largest talent agency and record label, SM Entertainment.
*1995s, YG Entertainment, DSP Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and FNC Music
*October 2009: The Wonder Girls enter the US Billboard Hot 100 music chart with their single "Nobody", & surpassed 50 million views on YouTube.
March 2012: After becoming the first K-pop band to enter the Billboard 200 music chart with their album Alive, kicks off the Alive Tour in 25 cities worldwide.
