An Apple a Day, Keeps the Doctor Away By, Mandy Miller What does being healthy mean to you? What barriers do/would you face when trying to achieve your health goals? If you were to rate yourself between 1 and 10 in this category of health what would you get? I believe being healthy means to have a good balance in all aspects of your life, including mental, physical and social interactions. You may workout every day, but if you do not eat healthy, balanced, meals your overall health is not the best it could be. In my opinion there is not just one important aspect to being healthy. In terms of your health - What are your strengths and weaknesses? Although I am a vegetarian I would still consider my eating habits to be one of my strengths. I create meal plans and try to choose the better option when shopping for groceries. Vitamins and supplements are an essential for me and I turn to homeopathic remedies and medicine when I become ill. My weakness would include my genetics, my dads side of my family has had problems with their thyroid being hyper active or under active. I would consider myself to have a higher risk of problems with my thyroid after the age of 30.

I consider myself to be physically fit, I would give my self a 7 out of 10 because I know my physical health could use some improvement. I would consider myself physically fit because I workout 3-4 times a week at the gym and I`m always trying to stay active. On top of staying active I am learning and improving my healthy eating everyday. My recent physical testing showed that although my flexibility is above average my strength was below average. I still have things to work on but overall I believe my physical health is good.
BMI stands for Body Mass Index, this is calculated by weight and height. A healthy BMI would be anywhere from 19-25. In this case I am considered overweight with a BMI of 26.6. Although my BMI indicates I am overweight, I believe that this is not true. BMI does not take muscle into consideration, with muscle weighting more than fat I believe this is an inaccurate way of determining someones health.

Although I have a positive outlook on life and I feel good about myself and take pride in what I do. I think being a perfectionist has a great effect on my emotional health. I put a lot of pressure on my self sometimes which can lead to me being stressed. I believe my emotional state is not the best it could be, but I'm working it. I would give myself a 6 out of 10 for emotional health. I have anxiety issues but have been learning how to cope with change in a positive way.

I would give myself a 6 out of 10 for social health. I tend to shy away from things that include a lot of people. I rarely attend parties or big events. During projects or assignment, at school, I have good collaboration skills but would rather work independently so I do not have to rely on someone else. The friendships I have made, I would consider healthy and enjoyable. Although I have good social skills, I enjoy time to myself. I consider myself to be an introvert.
I would rate myself a 9. I think what gives me a purpose in life is my inner determination. I look back at what I've been through and it just keeps me going because I know it only gets better.
There's many way's I achieve balance in my life. One way is mediation. It gives me a chance to just think about everything and sort out mental thoughts. From a physical standpoint yoga is active meditation which helps me relieve stress and work on my flexibility at the same time. I also try to stick to my meal plans and keep active constantly. In my room I've recently been working on a dream wall and motivation board and it reminds me of my goals and how I'm going to get there. My motivational board reminds me to keep going and to never give up. Describe your physical health. Calculate your BMI - What is it? Does it fall into the healthy range? Describe your emotional health. Describe your social health. Describe your spiritual health How do you achieve balance in your life? If you were to rate yourself between 1 and 10 in this category of health what would you get?
I would rate myself a 7 out of 10. I know my limits fairly well and have researched different health risk I may be more prone too because of my genetics. I'm not just determined but ready to overcome any barriers that could stop me from achieving my goals. One of my big barriers would be rushing the process of becoming healthy. I have learned changing to a healthy lifestyle does not happen over night. Health risks in my genetics have not necessarily affected me yet but in the future it will be something I will have to monitor closely.

One of my main health goals would be to maintaining my eating habits, and exercise routines. How I will be achieving this is eventually getting a gym membership come winter. I would also like to keep learning about myself and further my knowledge on health in general. I will be taking courses in high school that will help me get into the colleges and university course I want to take. My dream job is to become a Naturopathic and run my own business.
