Rat is one of the main characters in the comic strip and was the inspiration for the comic. He is described as "melodramatic" and an "anit-hero" due to his sudden and often destructive outbursts... In other words, he's crazy. He is often sarcastic, unsympathetic, and rude. About Main Characters in San Marino, California. Born on January 16, 1968 Studied at UCLA School of Law to become a lawyer. Interesting Facts The word "un-die" was put in the dictionary due to Pastis' use of it. He often kills of his characters which will pop up again in another comic later on. Pearls is considered a "meta-comic," in which the characters can interact with the author or characters from another strip. criticism/hostility towards Pastis himself by the characters dark humor - underlying themes of death, depression and suffering. The llama named "Ataturk" ADHD pills Jerusalem Bus crash Just everyday life of anthropomorphic animals living in the suburbs of Albany. Aside from comic strips, Pastis also creates books (and there are plushies of the characters for sale too!) Aside from the main characters, Pastis often includes random figures from history, politics, etc. Another side character, Guard Duck is often shown as a destructive, violent (and in need to anger management) figure... though this strip shows the Duck in a much better (and cuter) light. But mostly, the comic focuses on the main characters and the relationships between them. misc. ... Awards ~ National Cartoonist Society winner of 2004 and 2007! National Cartoonist Society nominee for 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2007. The significance of the term "Pearls Before Swine" is used by Pastis as a pun to describe the Rat's superiority to the Pig. O : ' ' ) ) ) C ) ) C ) ( I | ) | | . | | . ~ ~ | | | | | | pig Pig is much like the opposite of Rat. He is kind and sometimes dense, and is also abused by Rat. Pig tries to make lame and stupid jokes and is usually not so bright. (Still, I think he's adorable.) One of his bad habits is talking to inanimate objects.. He loves to eat pork products... Zebra is known as the more neutral character. He is often stuck between Pig and Rat and has many issues as well. Zebra struggles with his next door neighbors, which try to eat him, and with his relationship with his family and other predators (such as lions), in vain. Constantly under threat of Crocs... Nicknamed "zeeba neighba" by the Crocs. Other Characters Crocodiles Controversy Like all artists and cartoonists, there will always be something "wrong" with the art they make (something not accepted by the public). Even Pastis has some bits of controversy... President Bush Amongst the main characters are some minor ones that appear occasionally- these are just as important though! Goat Guard Duck Some other characters include Pigita, Stephan Pastis, Hyenas, Lions... (there are really too many.) Anger management problems "Guards" the characters by destroying/blowing up/pulverizing innocent neighbors and people Intellec-tual.. Doesn't interact with characters often.
