Each year the Teaching Fellows Program provides at least 175 high school seniors who have exhibited high academic achievement, history of service to the school and community, and want to teach in SC.
South Carolina Teaching Fellows Goals
The Teaching Fellows Program will strive to “develop highly professional educators who lead by example” by:

1.
Developing their knowledge of education
policy and advocacy
.

2.
Engaging in strategic professional
development and service
.

3.
Networking with other Teaching Fellows
across the state, education organizations, and leaders in education, business, and government.
Who Can Apply?
Any current high school senior who is a United States citizen and a legal resident of South Carolina is eligible to apply.

Application Process

Available online September 1 through December 1.

A high school transcript and three (3) references on official forms must be obtained and sent to CERRA, postmarked by December 5, 2015.
Each candidate will be notified by December as to whether they will be invited back to a regional interview.
Interviews
Interviews will be held on February 20. (Interviewers are educators, elected officials, business persons, PTA/PTO representatives and other education stakeholders.)
The purpose of the interview is to assess the following:
1. Applicant’s communication skills
2. Commitment to teaching
3. Problem solving ability
4. Originality and knowledge of world and educational processes
The interview also consists of a thirty minute writing prompt.
Applicants are placed in a quiet room and a designated trained facilitator administers the process.

Recipients and Alternates
Teaching Fellows award letters will be mailed out no later than March 2015

. Everyone who attended Regional Interviews will be mailed their decisions.
*This date can vary, depending on when the SC General Assembly approves a budget for CERRA.
Alternates are also chosen in case a recipient declines the award offer. Alternate numbers vary and are chosen based on the next highest scores.
Too good to be true right?
So what is the Catch...
A Teaching Fellows Recipient must agree to teach in a South Carolina public school one year for every year that they receive the fellowship.
Why Lander?
Student/faculty ratio of 17:1.
Average class size is 22 and student body is around 3,000.
Student body representing 29 states and 17 foreign countries.
Sports include: Mens: Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Soccer, and Tennis. Womens: Basketball, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Volleyball.
An intramural program open to sports enthusiasts of all abilities.
Greek Life
Tuition estimated around 22,900 per year.
