MALARIA
INFECTIOUS DISEASE: MALARIA
COMMON NAME: Malaria
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Malaria
CAUSE: Malaria is caused by the parasitie of the genus Plasmodium. There are different species of this parasitic: Falciparum, Vivax, Ovale and Malarie. This parasitic is transmitted by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito. This mosquito bites an infected organism and take up blood with Plasmodium´ gametes.
INFECTIOUS DISEASE: MALARIA
RISK FACTORS:
Wet and hot climates.
Avoid the use of insects repellents or use repellents without DEET
Bad use of mosquito netting. Permithrin (insecticide)
Ineffective medicines
Not take preventive measures.

PREVENTION:
Visit your doctor before your trip.
Use DEET insect repellent and mosquito netting..
Use flying insect spray .
Wear clothing.
Avoid being outdoors.
Stay in air-conditioned or screened rooms.

SYMPTOMS::
Convulsions, coma
Recurrent fevers 41.1·c
Chills and sweat
Muscle aches, headaches and anemia
Diarrhea/Nausea and vomiting
Jaundice
Dark or dicoloured urine
Drops with blood.

INFECTIOUS DISEASES: Infectious diseases are diseases caused by germs (virus, fungi, bacteria and protozoa).
NON-INFECTIOUS DISEASES: Non-infectious diseases are those which are not caused by pathogenic microorganisms. For example cancer.
Without treatment :
Encephalitis
Increase of the destruction of red blood cells.
Renal disorder
Hepatic disorder
Meningitis
Lung edema
Break up of the spleen and as a consequence masive hemorrhage.
DIAGNOSE: The doctor will ask you about:
Symptoms, medical history and travel history.
A physical exam.
Blood test in the laboratory.
TREATMENT: Malaria has cure. The choice of an antimalarial agent depends on:
Specific type of parasite.
Severity and stage of infection
Area of the world.
The common medicine is chloroquine
The alternatives are:
Malrone
Mefloquine
Fansidar
Combination of quinine doxicilin and clindamicin.
INCIDENCE: 3300 million people are exposed to this disease. It is linked to wealth. Last year, over 80 % of the deaths were in Africa.
