METAPHOR The use of a word or phrase to refer to
something that it isn't, implying a
similarity between the word or phrase
used and the thing described, and
without the words "like" or "as".

The value of a metaphor is in the meaning that it can
create. Meaning happens inside the mind and as such is
an individual experience. Nevertheless, the commonality
of words means that the well-understood meaning of one
world can associated with a concept that is not so well
understood or where new meaning need to be injected.

Personification is used when you are reading about a lifeless object that is "brought to life." For example, if a leaf is dancing, then it is given human qualities as an object. If a backpack jumps, a book cries to be read or a candle sways, than you can expect that
they are being personified. PERSONIFICATION
IMPORTANCE Complex ideas are, almost by definition, difficult to understand. To help us make sense of them, we turn them into human images. By reducing other things to people, it makes us treat them with more care and human concern, bypassing our values around this subject.

DEFINITION A personification is the use of human characteristics to objects, animals, forces of nature, and others. It occasionly consists of creating imaginary people who are the essence of an abstraction such as Death, Lust, or War.
Alliteration is a device used in writing, often in poetry, in which the beginning letter is repeated in all or most of the words in a line or sentence. "She sells seashells by the seashore" is one common example. "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers" is another. DEFINITION USAGE
Alliteration is used to make a sentence or line of poetry more pleasing or interesting to the ear. It is a device frequently used in slogans, catchphrases and article titles. Alliteration can make everyday langugage or poetry interesting or more memorable, especially when read aloud. The device tends to make catchphrases and slogans more memorable. verse IMPORTANCE Using assonances helps to communicate different points to readers in an unique way. One of the common techniques used with literature is assonance. This provides specific sounds throughout the piece of work to create an interesting twist to the writing. Assonance is a type of rhyme where only the vowels “rhyme” or are similar-sounding; consonants are ignored. It is composed of two or more words. DEFINITION USAGE Assonance is used specifically to create sound to the writing through the use of vowels. This is similar to a rhyme and is done by taking vowels that are in different words and using them repetitively. EXAMPLES How now, brown cow

The importance of onomatopoeia in languages cannot be underestimated; they provide the means for the expression of a world of meaning that conventional words like the regular nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs alone are inadequate to convey. IMPORTANCE
DEFINITION SOUNDS EXPRESSION IMITATION Onomatopoeia is making or forming a word or phrase by imitating a sound. Use a series of words and/or phrases to have children identify the subject being sounded out. EXAMPLES Zap!
USAGE Onomatopoeia is used for emphasis or to paint a clear, effective picture.It is featured very heavily in children’s rhymes and poetry in general. In some cases, it is used in advertising such as in the slogan. ONOMATOPOEIA SIMILE A simile compares two different things in order to create a new meaning.Similes are formed by saying "like" or "as". This performs the distinction between a metaphor and a simile similarities

IMPORTANCE Similes play a significant role in creative writing.They are an unusual way to describe something. Authors use them to make their writing more interesting or entertaining. They usually can be slightly exaggerated, but the reader or listener, can still understand.

RHYME A rhyme are an important literary device that creates interest and goes beyond the degree of a normal poem. It is a tool that is often enployed in songs, being catchy. Hence, it is becomes easy to remember.
IMPORTANCE The repetition of sounds in two or more words or phrases that usually appear close to each other in a poem. For example: river/shiver, song/long, leap/deep. If the rhyme occurs at the ends of lines, it is called end rhyme.
DEFINITION Whether you're a poet, rapper, songwriter, aspiring children's book writer or just someone who enjoys word play, rhyming is an important skill. Rhyming/ rhymes are used diversely by a number of people. USAGE EXAMPLES Little Miss Muffet,

sounds IMAGERY IMPORTANCE Imagery draws the reader in. It capture the reader's interest in, and empathy for, your characters. It also conveys the tone and mood of the character at that moment, their reading preferences which creates insight into their character. USAGE A versatile use of imagery creates a piece that captivates the reader because the reader can clearly see, hear, taste, touch or smell the writer's words about a subject, a character
or a setting. DEFINITION The ability to form mental images of things or events; "he could still hear her in his imagination". In writing, the author uses this tool to create a world in the reader's mind. EXAMPLES “Magnified apples appear and disappear … every fleck of russet showing clear.” “The clouds were low and hairy … like locks blown forward in the gleam of eyes.” “The iced branches shed ‘crystal shells.’” R Y T H M mental images imagination images collectively The rhythm of a poem written in ‘open’ form is known as its beat; it will often imitate human speech, although it will be more emotive than general speech: recurring stress pattern in poetry. DEFINITION H IMPORTANCE A rhythm is essential in a successful poem, whether it is written under a strict form or free-verse, it prevents the reader from boredom: it livens the poem slightly more. Rhythm can be employed to arouse different emotions in the reader. It should be used to make the poem much brighter, livelier, more lustrous, as poetry in general is brighter than common speech. It is a fundamental element of learning and one of the most powerful tools for rote memorization. Poetry is a great example of how you can use elements of repetition to reinforce memory and enhance learning. DEFINITION Repetition, or repeating the same word, or the same sense in different words, for the purpose of making a deeper impression on the audience. This involves the use of elements of language which are equivalent.
USAGE The use of repetition in poems is to keep the reader focused on the comparison between the verses was making between what is perceived and what is actual.
