But Change-Up the Locations PRACTICE Improves Learning Create a List Prioritizing the Most Important Things You need to Study First, and Stick To Your List Memory games, or mnemonic devices, are methods for remembering pieces of information using a simple association of common words. Most often people string together words to form a nonsense sentence that is easy to remember. The first letter of each word can then be used to stand for something else – the piece of information you’re trying to remember. The key to such memory devices is the new phrase or sentence you come up with has to be more memorable and easier to remember than the terms or information you’re trying to learn. Mnemonic devices are helpful because you use more of your brain to remember visual and active images than you do to remember just a list of items. Using more of your brain means better memory. Note taking is probably the most common study strategy. (8)

Five key skills to GREAT note taking:
a. Be selective
b. Cornell system
c. Recording lectures
d. Use guided notes
e. REVIEW your notes at least two times. Note Taking Area: Record lecture as fully and as meaningfully as possible.

Cue Column: As you're taking notes, keep cue column empty. Soon after the lecture, reduce your notes to concise jottings as clues for Reciting, Reviewing, and Reflecting.

Summaries: Sum up each page of your notes in a sentence or two. Veins are thinner, less elastic, and carry blood rich in carbon dioxide back to the heart. Let's ask some why questions.
Why do arteries need to be more elastic than veins?

Why do arteries carry blood away from the heart?
Why do arteries carry the blood that is rich in oxygen? Facts that you already know very well and have no trouble remembering act as anchor points.
