Humans are living longer, and there are more of us
In the last century, the average lifespan of Americans has increased dramatically. In 1900, average life expectancy was 46 years for men and 48 years for women. By 2010, it had increased to 76 years for men and 81 years for women. (National Center for Health Statistics, 2014).
How do people feel about assisted suicide?

People are fighting for their right to die in a movement called the right to die movement.

As people live longer and longer they are more likely to suffer from debilitating chronic diseases such as heart failure, arthritis, diabetes and devastating dementias such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Some feel it is within their rights to choose to not go through the suffering and want a death with dignity.
Assisted suicide is the is defined as the suicide of a patient suffering from an incurable disease, effected by the taking of lethal drugs provided by a doctor for this purpose. (BBC, Forms of Euthanasia)

At the age of 39, she was diagnosed with a severe, aggressive, terminal form of brain cancer. She moved to Oregon and joined the fight in the Right to Die movement.
She ended her life on November 1, 2014.
In Chile, Velentina suffering from cystic fibrosis. She must suffer through constant nausea and headaches.
Her brother died from cystic fibrosis and she didn't want to live with the disease anymore.
Her situation sparked a serious debate about assisted suicide throughout Chile.
