How does the hieght of a basketball player affect his foul shooting percentage?
I predict that the taller the player, the higher his foul shot percentage will be.
Equation: Manual
Two points ON LINE: (75, .82) &(76, .813)
Slope: Formula for slope is y2-y1/ x2-x1
.813-.82= -0.007
Point slope form: y-y1=m(x-x1)
With numbers plugged in: y-0.82=-0.007(x-75)
To turn into slope intercept form you must first multiply everything outside the parenthesis to m.
y-0.82= -0.007x +0.525
Then solve for y and you'll get ...

Importance of Study
It is important to know whether a players height affects his foul shooting so that we know how fair the game is. This is mostly beneficial to recruiters looking for the best players.

We used these websites to obtain our data.
Y= -0.007X + 1.345
Y-intercept: 0.9822912
The y-in represents the foul shot percentage when the height is 0.
X-intercept: 1399.555733
The height required for the foul shot % to be zero.
Slope: -0.0022625
For every inch taller, the foul shot % decreased by -0.0022625.

The moment of Truth
The data did not support my hypothesis. As the height of the basketball player increased, the Foul shot % decreased.
In my opinion, my trend line was accurate because its equation came close to the regression line's calculated equation.
Suppose a player was 85 inches tall, what would his foul shooting percentage be?
y= -0.0022626(85)+.982291
y= -.192321+ .982291
y= .78997
His foul shot percentage would be .78997
Suppose a player's height was 91 inches. What would his foul shooting percentage be then?
y= -0.0022626(91)+.982291
y= -0.2058966+ .98229
y= 0.7763
His foul shot percentage would be .7763.
It is causation because the foul shot %is caused by the NBA player's height. Also because the correlation between the two variables is very weak.
Real life connection
People can use these results to find out if a specific player has an advantage over other players because of his height. Also, NBA recruiters can use this information to seek for the players who are most likely better at making foul shots.
