Who are Examples of People in Powerful Positions
Mustapha Mond

What is Power?
Power is the ability to influence or control the behavior of others. Power can be seen as evil or unjust when used in the wrong way but when exercised, power can also be admired. Having power is something that can give confidence to ones ego but with power comes responsibility and knowledge.
Brave New World
Brave New World Hierarchy
Background information about the book
Brave New World is the world 600 years in the future. The world is controlled by 10 rulers. These 10 people make all the decisions for the world. Dictatorship is how the world runs. Every person is born out of a machine, there are no mothers or family's. The children are conditioned from the moment they were made, everyone is conditioned to be happy with who they are and what their job is. Since there is no family's in Brave New World everyone belongs to everyone, there is no such things as relationships. There is no money in Brave New World instead society is given Soma, Soma is a drug that is given to everyone to relax and take a hoilday. it keeps everyone in a happy state.
What is the Connection between Brave New World and Power?
In Brave New World, the perception the reader gets is that knowledge is power. The more knowledge that is had, the higher in the hierarchy they are.

what is a hierarchy? It is a system/ a way to organize things/ people where people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority.
Brave New World Power is knowledge
Mustapha Mond
Mustapha Mond is the most powerful and intelligent character in the world state. In literal terms Mustapha Mond is the most powerful character in the book, there are only 10 rulers of the world and Mustapha Mond is one of them. Mustapha Mond used to be an independent minded scientist, he was more interested in furthering his own research rather than society version of science. Mond also reads Shakespeare, Shakespeare is forbidden in the world state because anything old and beautiful cannot be introduced to society. Mond is able to break his own rules.
How is he powerful?
Mond is a powerful character in more than one way. He is a powerful character because he knows about both lives of the past and current. He understands the benefits of both lives. He understands the want to feel something and have emotions. He also understands that for the good of the world staying stable emotions and beautiful things of the past might now be a good idea. When Emotions are high, it could lead to fights and anger. That is something that, right now does not exist in the Brave New World. In the literal sense, Mustpha Mond is the most powerful character in the book that is introduced. He was put into that position because of his diverse knowledge of the past and present.

John the savage
The Director
So how is he powerful?
John
John is the only character in Brave New World that was naturally born by a women. John is part of the savages but wishes to be apart of the society. He is the true loner, he is not accepted by either of the society's. John learned his values and morals from a book he author is William Shakespeare. John is the only character that can feel emotions and has some of the today's world values.
How is he Powerful?
John the savage is a powerful character because he is the only character in the book that got a chance to be raised and have a family and feel happiness from something other than Soma. This makes him a powerful character because he's unique, hes not like anyone else. His life experiences and emotions make him different than everyone else.
The director
The Director is a perfect example of an intelligent minded Alpha. The director runs a "baby factory" He teaches the young adults the techniques of fertilization and segregation.
How is he Powerful?
The Director is a perfect example of being powerful. The Director is a Alpha, that is the highest a person could be born into the hierarchy. He is a prime example of the powerful positions that all alphas get put into. He is also very intelligent because all of the Alphas are conditioned to be. The Director of the Hatchery has to have a lot of knowledge about rules and the way that the factory works , to keep everything running smoothly.
