Coral Reefs Among the most diverse regions on earth. It's Place on Earth: -in clear tropical or semitropical ocean water (64-86 degree water) -Abiotic Factors: light and temperature -Native Plants: seagrass, seaweed, or marine algae. -Native Animals; 25% of life in the ocean: sea anemones, sea jellies, sea urchins, sponges, worms, rays, lobsters, turtles, and snails. -Competition: food, space, mates -Cooperation:sponges and crabs
sponges get a home, and crabs get protection. Unique Characteristics: 1. They grow less than 3cm per year. 2. Have existed for more than 200 million years. 3. Among the oldest ecosystems on earth. 4. Largest living structures on the planet. 5. 500 million people rely on reefs for their food and livelihoods. 6. Without coral reefs, parts of Florida would be underwater 7. The Great Barrier reef is the only natural structure that can be seen from space. 8. If you cut yourself on coral (and dont clean it), the coral will grow inside your skin. 9. Baby coral are smaller than pinheads. 10. There are more than 2,000 coral reefs in the world. Weather Report: -Average Percipitation: normally 14 days in a month that there is rain. -Average Temperature: 70 degrees (at the Great Reef Barrier of Sydney) -Stuff to Bring: SCUBA DIVING GEAR ! -new construction along coast
