When I was in kindergarten I can remember somebody giving me a pretzel. Being me of course I ate it, and it turned out to be a peanut butter stuffed pretzel. Panicking, I quickly hid behind something and spit the thing out. I didn’t know what to do. All I can really remember is freaking out thinking “I’m gonna DIE” I felt terrible, I really did, but I didn’t think I’d look it. My teacher told me my eyes looked puffy and asked if I ate any peanuts and I told her I didn’t. She told me to go to the nurse anyways and then I told the nurse. I don’t remember what she did but I think I went home early that day. This is important to me because it reminds what can really happen to me if I do eat peanuts.
My ‘Buddy’ (my Grampa Jack Brown) and I have the best relationship, even though he’s moved onto heaven (April 26 2006). We always called each other ‘Buddy’ it was our name for each other. We had a bond that is truly hard to explain, it was amazing though. When Buddy died a big part of me died. I can remember it was in 5th grade and it ‘was’ the best day of the year Everything was going great When I get home my Dad is really nice to me and breaks the news to me. I cry and cry and cry, it took a lot of therapy from the school guidance counselor to get me smiling again. How you all see me now is how I chose to morn. I still can’t talk about him without starting to cry a little, but my mother told me he chose a song for us. The song is called “My Buddy” by Pattie LuPone. Old fashioned yes, but it means so much to me because every time I listen to it I feel like he still loves me.
My soul sister’s name is Becky Washel. I’m pretty sure at least some of you know who she is, because everyone knows Becky We’ve been friends for 4 years now and never once got into a fight. Of course Becky and I had to meet somehow and it was in the strangest way. In 6th grade she was in my math class, and everyone knows how you always get places ABC order by last name. S and W seemed to be close in our class and I sat right next to her. Becky is a very freakishly tall person, and I’m not joking either. I am well…short so when I first saw her I thought “What a tall freak” Then of course with my dumb luck I had to work with her in a group of three, (I remember the third person’s name was Jeremy but that’s all.) Becky and I just clicked and that’s how we became friends. Of course it wasn’t till about 7th grade till we really became close, but hey we're close now and thats what counts. This is important to me because even though she’s way more popular then me, even prettier than me she’s still my best friend and she says I’m still her number one best friend too
When I started TKD in 2006 it’s changed my life forever. At first when my mom took me to my first class I never wanted to do it again. I didn’t like people doing things I knew I couldn’t ever do, it just angered me. But regardless of my opinions she took Megan and I back. After a few classes I began to like it more and more. Now I love it I can’t picture my life without Tae-kwon-do, before I started tae-kwon-do I couldn’t even break a stick, but now I can (thankfully) I can also break three boards with a kick and two boards with hand techniques. It’s been so fun these four years and now I’m finally testing for my black belt I will be tested on November 21st 2009.
It was 8th grade when I met Noah. My friend Stasia and I would swap back and forth between two lunch tables. One table was with our friends, the other table was with our friend Ken Chaney. When we were at Ken’s table I sit next to Noah and across from Stasia. I didn’t really know Noah, or Nick Zern, or Tyler Kemp and they all sat there so I used to just talk with Stasia and Ken, while have little conversations with Noah, Nick and Tyler. Soon I’d grown used to sitting next to Noah I decided why not be friends? It was a very good choice because I don’t know what I would do without him now (Ken’s lunch table became ours as we moved there permanently half way through the year) Last year our lunch table loved to steal people's food when it was 'unguarded'. We always had fights about who stole our food, or who gets the leftover food. One day Noah and Nick went to throw away their trash and I decided to take Noah’s skittles. I figured he’d notice and make me give them back…surprisingly he never noticed. After that we just kept getting closer and closer. Strange what just a bag of skittles can do.
Ever since I was little I’ve always dreamed of having beautiful long hair. Even now I still kind of do. That leaves everyone of you with the question “Then why the heck is it so short” Ever since I can remember my Grampa(Buddy remember slide 2?) has told me how beautiful I would look with short hair. I never believed him once. I always said “No thank you I like having pig tails” Of course he never gave up trying to get me to have short hair. I’d say it took him about three years to get me to cut it. That takes a lot of determination. In 2006 I finally decided that I would do something nice for my Buddy. My parents asked me at least five times if I was sure I knew what I was doing. I said “Yeah it’s for Buddy” As soon as I got home I asked to call up my Mormor(Mother’s mother in Swedish aka my Grandma) and Buddy to tell them. My Mormor picked up first and I told her. She was so happy When I got to talk to Buddy he told me he was gonna come and see it as soon as possible I could not wait I did it for him of course. Unfortunately I never was able to show him my short hair. I remember wanting to give up on my short hair it was worthless without the person I care most about seeing it. When I started growing my hair out I didn’t like it. Figured I would grow it out on last time and donate it to locks of love. In 2008 I cut my hair. It was a nice pixie cut. I will always keep it short for my Grampa even if he can only see it from heaven.
It was the school year of 2007 when I watched the movie “Whisper of the Heart” it’s one of the best movies I know. It is an anime movie that Disney dubbed into English. I had an English report due on something. I remember needing to pick a topic for the project on Monday. Durning the weekend I was searching through the bonus features of Whisper of the Heart and found one called “Behind the Mic.” I watched it. I remember thinking WOW That looks like sooooo much fun I want to do something like that when I grow older. I ended up using voice acting for my English paper. Ever since the day I saw that I’ve become obsessed with Voice Acting. It’s the first dream of mine I began to make reality and striving to do things to get me ahead of the Voice Acting industries. Let me tell you Voice actors are like English teachers…they never die, so it’s hard to get a role. My three favorite voice actors are Greg Ayres, Monica Rial, and Chris Patton.
The summer of 2009 is when I got a facebook. My first friend was friend Tiffany Jarrett. My second was Megan, but after 20 people I friend requested Greg Ayres. For those of you who don’t know who Greg Ayres is, he is the most amazingly awesome, and one of the kindest voice actors out there Plus he can sing I admire him so much He’s my role model and I’m friends with him on facebook I almost died of happiness that day. What makes it great is the fact that here in the great PA is a place where there are no such things as Anime-conventions and so I’ve never been able to meet him…so facebook is truly as close as I got. Also he’s commented on two of my photos’ Being friends on facebook with Greg Ayres is truly number one in my point of view.
Summer of 2009 I also bought myself a bass guitar. I want to learn to play the bass because I was inspired by the show “Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.” (Greg Ayres plays the main character) I yearned to learn how to play the bass so I could be as good as the character Taira Yoshiyuki. My dream bass is a Paul Mccartney Hofer Bass Guitar. Although I didn’t end up buying that bass I bought myself a Crescent Bass. I haven’t learned anything but I’ve messed around with it a few times and it’s really fun to play. Too bad the bass guitar is way too over looked.
This year most of my friends are in marching band. That means it’s time for new friends. I’ve made a few of my friend's marching band friends too. The one that really sticks out is Nate Bashline. In the beginning of the year I never really heard about marching band from my friends because they know I’d feel left out a little. Of course as time passed they just kept telling me things and one of those things was about Nate. Ally Rosle was talking to him and said something about me, Nate asked who I was and Ally said “Kayleigh Smith? Ya’know Noah’s Bestfriend?” and Nate’s reaction was “Oh…her”. So yeah he I’m guessing he really didn’t like me all too much at first. I never really ever cared about him either. About a month ago he started sitting at Becky’s table and so that is when we first met. Now I can’t even describe how amazing Nate is.
