Overall I really enjoyed reading and watching the Martin Luther King Jr. speech. The Kevin Rudd speech was real boring and to formal.
Martin
Luther King Jr.
Martin is trying to get the point to tell everyone about why black people should have rights in the world along with white people and not to be punished in a more brutal way. I strongly believe that this speech is from the heart and was written with all his soul, he is so inspirational by announcing this speech, and going against racism. It is such a meaningful speech and has been remembered for 51 years and will probably still be remembered 100 years down the track. He started off the speech with saying ‘I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.’ Next he used repetition ‘I have a dream’, this was said eight times at the start of all eight sentences. He then used the rule of three ‘With this faith’ this was said three times. After that he used two different metaphors ‘mountain of despair a stone of hope’ & ‘beautiful symphony of brotherhood’. Repetition was used again saying ‘Let freedom ring’ five times. Last of all the rule of three was again used ‘Free at last’ used three times.
Honestly I think he had only 1 point of view, stating he was sorry for rejecting the Aboriginal and Torres Strait people. Rudd is only getting this speech over and done with because of the public. I totally disagree with this speech as it is too formal and was written as a speech and not as an apology. It should’ve come from the heart and not off paper. Kevin Rudd used emotive language by saying ‘We reflect on their past mistreatment’, also used the rule of three ‘we say sorry’ three times, repetition is included as well ‘ A future….’, he said this five times.
