Irrigation Systems

Goal

Phase 2:

Create the same idea of shade over the stadium seats, providing energy towards the arena lights and creating a safer environment for spectators to enjoy the event.

Phase 1:

Create shade tops on the amphitheater to apply solar panels on the top; 1. Shade during events 2. Energy supply panel location.

How we connect with the Huntington Garden

  • Through a series of classroom activities, service projects, field visits, and expeditions, students learned about our current water issues.

Energy Efficient Ideas

Solar Panels

Advantages

  • Derive clean, pure energy.
  • Combat greenhouse gas emissions and global warming.
  • Reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
  • Offset 30 tons of CO2 over 30 years.
  • Sustainable and renewable.
  • Small amount of maintenance.
  • Maximum efficiency.
  • Geopolitical benefits.

Disadvantages

  • The sun does not shine 24/7.

Irrigation System

H2O Conservation Program Cont.

Can save money and preserve water.

Provides an example to the community as to different ways of watering their gardens.

We need irrigation systems such as:

  • Ditch irrigation
  • Drip irrigation
  • Sprinkler System
  • Localized irrigation
  • Automated irrigation

It would make our gardens much more than it is now.

This could only happen if we are able to get the funding and energy necessary to power this project

  • How to conserve water through renewed water systems; timed sprinklers.
  • Visited the Los Angeles River and found out where water comes from and where the water aqueduct starts.
  • We learned what kind of organisms and animals live in water and how much they depend on the water for their ecosystem.
  • How water companies clean the waste water and what people flush down their toilets (money, medicine, etc.)
  • We went to go visit JPL, a company that stores water in the Pasadena area and found out that a single person uses 80-100 gallons of water.

Who are we?

Proposition 39

Project Analysis

“The Engineering and Technology Academy envisions the development of students… in areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in order to infuse change in our society.”

  • Install solar panels to furnish energy to our building.
  • We will be leaders for other academy’s, by providing support or guidance towards their desire of becoming solar or not.
  • Continue our process to include the sport complex arena because of their size and energy consummation by all members of the community.

“Under the initiative, roughly up to $550 million annually is available for appropriation by the Legislature for eligible projects to improve energy efficiency and expand clean energy generation in schools.”

“For the first year, there is an option to receive part or all of a school’s allocation for energy savings planning purposes.”

Los Angeles school district receives $26 million

Proposal will help our environment but also benefit our community by establishing programs through the use of extra funds such as:

  • Parent technology courses
  • Trade technology programs for students
  • Esteban E. Torres High School of Engineering and Technology and a Pilot school.
  • Located in East Los Angeles.
  • We want to be pioneers of bringing change into our community by educating or making them aware of energy conservation.
  • We want to transform the campus of our school into a conserving solar powered environmental school.

Executive Summary

  • We are 21st century thinkers: “we focus on global awareness; financial, economic; business, and entrepreneurial literacy; civil literacy; and health and wellness awareness.” All these fundamental ideas support the idea of installing solar panels.
  • Installing solar panels also support our “fuse with project-based learning so that students learn realistic and effective ways to enhance their own learning.”
  • Setting solar panels will benefit us by attracting more attention from our community and change the way they view the consumption of energy.
