As stated in CNN “ U.S oil prices surged above $100 dollars a barrel… while prices in Europe hit a high of $120 a barrel—levels not seen since 2008.”
The price of oil raised due to the fear that Egypt might block Middle Eastern countries transport of oil thorough the Suez Canal
Oil prices also rose in the fear that the political unrest may continue to spread thorough out the Middle East and North Africa. The United States feared that Saudi Arabia, which produces a tenth of the world’s oil, might also be affected by the political unrest.
After many days of protesting Egypt’s president, Hosni Mubarak has stepped down. This lowered the oil prices by a little because investors were confident that there would be no more problems in Egypt
