Argument

I propose that my fairy tale be accepted into the modern fairy tale genre. I will prove this in the following ways. First, I will establish my story as a modern fairy tale by showing how it meets the characteristics of a fairy tale. Second, I will show how my fairy tale relates to the cultural context of graduate school. Third, I will explain how my fairy tales characters will help graduate students relate to common struggles faced during this time. My paper will conclude with a call for action--that my fairy tale be accepted.

Introduce your fairy tale:

My fairy tale purposes to fulfill this gap by taking place at University of Dayton. This fairy tale will appeal to both faculty and graduate students. The purpose of this fairy tales is to relate to the joys and challenges of earning a M.A. as well as teaching college composition. With it's witty characters and simple plot lines, readers be sure to enjoy this modern fairy tale.

The Gap:

Even though fairy tales cater to a lot of different audiences, I have not found any modern fairy tales that appeal to graduate students or teaching assistants.

Creating a Research Space by Indicating a Gap

What "space" will your fairy tale occupy?

What haven't modern fairy tales covered?

What have scholars failed to recognize in their research?

In the last 5-10 years, fairy tales have been a big hit in novels, movies, and television series. For example, Frozen tells the tale about two sisters, Elsa and Ana. These sisters have captured the hearts of young girls all over the world. However, fairy tales aren't just interesting to children. Adults are fascinated by these tales as well. For example, the television series Once Upon A Time reworks traditional tales into one long, complex plot line. Each modern fairy tale, whether for young adults or children, seems to offer something new and fresh.
