My last name, Likkel, comes from a Dutch background. My grandpa was about half Dutch, making my father is about a fourth.
I think that we are tied to our culture, even if it is something that we didn't grow up in. I don't really know anything about the Dutch culture, but it's something that I've thought a lot about as I've grown older and I recognize that it is a part of who I am.
I'm less than a quarter Dutch, but I still recognize it as a significant part of who I am... and not just in the way I look - blonde hair and blue eyes are stereotypically Dutch.

Unfortunately, I don't know a whole lot about that part of me. The language and culture have never been a part of my family's day-to-day life. As I've gotten older, I have become more and more curious as to where I come from
Traditions are a big part of my family & I would love to have been able to incorporate cultural traditions from that part of my life.

However, I might be getting the opportunity to travel to the Netherlands over the summer and I am extremely excited to see where I come from. I really hope to learn some things about the Dutch culture that I could possibly bring back and share with my family.
