Social Reconstructionism

A philosophy of education that looks to education to change society, rather than just teach about it. As an education philosophy it calls on schools to educate students in ways that will help society move beyond all forms of discrimination to the benefit of everyone worldwide.

Incorporate the issues facing the community into the class discussion-lesson weekly and give extra points for extra efforts.

He believed that social reality is constructed by human beings in history. As such, humans can construct a new social reality if they choose to.

As philosophy helps technology educators understand alternatives, make decisions and take action in both curriculum and instruction, it is important for technology educators to ask philosophical questions at the onset of their work to understand the implications of their actions. A brief discussion about some of the philosophies that inform educational practice in North America provides a background for an analysis of the different philosophies in relation to technology education, and provides insight into the significance of reconstructionism, an outgrowth of pragmatism, as a philosophy in which to frame and describe technology education.
