Helios riding in his chariot across the sky is the sunrise until the sunset

The cattle

Lampetie, a guardian of the cattle, ran to tell Helios what had happened to his sacred cattle. Helios went into a rage, begging Zeus to punish them or else he would stop shining over Earth.

Helios has 350 cattle, which represent the days of the lunar year

Thrinacia

Odysseus' interactions with Helios took place on the island of Thrinacia. Today it is better known as Sicily, the small island off the southern tip of Italy.

Zeus killed all the men except Odysseus with the thundrbolt he sent to their ship a week later.

The crew was starving for a month when Eurylochus convinced the men to just eat the cattle now, and build a tribute to Helios when they returned to Ithaca. They did this while Odysseus was asleep after praying to the gods.

and his crew under control and refrain from

eating Helios' cattle, they land their ship on

the island of Thrinacia. Odysseus instructs

his men not to eat the cattle, to only

eat what they had on
