Predator Vs. Prey Adaptations

Prey is constantly at risk of being hunted so they need to find their niche: their way of avoiding being eaten ( Ch. 8, Sec. 2).

When the niches of animals

mix, competitions occur. One of these competitions is predation (ch.8 Sec.2).

Predation involves 4 steps: detection, attack, capture,

and consumption. Prey have developed adaptations to

survive each of these four steps.

A common choice is camoflague:

this obscures the recognizable features of the animal which is usually the head.

Many species are poisonous. Predators learn to avoid these species over time and the species usually makes themsleves identifiable as poisonous.
