13th, 14th, and 15th amendments

Who was Supposed to Benefit from this Amendment?

  • I think that in a way everyone benefited from this. It ended the civil war so many lives were spared. It also set the slaves free so they were happy. Even though the south was angry because it ruined there economy.

Reasons for the Creation of the 13th Amendment

  • Abraham Lincoln added this amendment to the constitution because he wanted to abolish slavery and stop the American Civil war.
  • This amendment was definitely necessary because slavery was causing the civil war and that was tearing the nation apart. The slaves were being forced to work against there will. They were treated like animals.

Quote the 13th amendment

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

14th amendment

The 15th amendment

This basically saying that no one is allowed to have someone working for them against there will, the only way that that is going to happen is if they are working because of a punishment

Did it work? Improve Freedpeople’s lives? Explain.

The 13th Amendment worked, by ending slavery . The slaves were finally free, but still were not treated equally.

The conditions of the slaves were very bad. Nearly all slaves lived in a hut, either provided by their owner or they had to build it themselves. Their bed was usually made out of straw and rags and they didn't have much furniture. Sometimes many slaves shared one hut, so living conditions were very difficult.

The conditions of the slaves was very bad because they had to work all day and nearly never had free time. Their owners didn't really care about them so they didn't provide them with good security, food, living conditions etc... They weren't allowed to take any other jobs, except serving their owner. They were not respected at all, and were never treated equally.

Benefits of the 13th Amendment

They could have proper wedding ceremonies, the women were allowed to work in the house but not in the field. They were allowed to travel to different places in the country, so they went to communities with other former slaves. They were not treated very fairly before the 13th amendment.

  • Before the 13th Amendment blacks were treated as slaves and had barely any rights. The13th Amendment ended the slavery and blacks were free.

  • Life for the former slaves was very hard, since they were not considered as people to the whites. Many whites would torture them a lot. The slaves would do all the housework, the hard work, basically whatever their "owners" wanted them to do.

Normally blacks were not considered humans, so they didn't get the same rights as the whites. That includes their security, their beleifs and their social conditions. The blacks, because of their race and color, were treated as slaves.

Life and Conditions Before The 15th Amendment

If the slaves tried to run away and if they were caught, they would get very harsh punishments. If they did something wrong, they would get punished. For instance, by getting whipped, beaten, starving them,etc... Sometimes Slave owners punished the slaves everyday.

WHY: This amendment was passed because they feared the Civil Rights Act might be overturned.

WHO: The Republicans proposed this amendment.

The citizens of the United states (excluding Native Americans) are to benefit from it because they are considered citizens

It did work because finally African Americans are now called citizens. It also worked because the Civil Rights Act can now not be overturned.

It did and did not work as it allowed only men to vote. This made many women angry because the amendment did not also grant them the right to vote.

The word for word description and summary

The 14th amendment was passed after the 13th amendment which ended slavery. The 14th amendment states that the people born or naturalized in the U.S. are considerded citizens. This Amendment gave protection to the newely freed slaves.

14th Ammendment

By: Isha, Mogambi, Morgan, and Jonathan

The Amendment was created because, before the Civil War against the North and South, African-Americans were treated as slaves. After the Civil War they became free people, but many whites didn't want blacks to have the same rights as them, and so they did not allow blacks to vote. This amendment was passed so that african-americans could now vote, and share their opinions and thoughts on who should be their president etc...

The Fourteenth Ammendment was created because Congress feared that the Civil Right Act might be overturned, so the Republicans proposed it. It was also created, and this change was needed, because it was not fair to the blacks that they did not have the same rights as every U.S. citizen, but now they will because the are citizens of the U.S. too, and now this made the blacks feel more secure .

Why was the change needed?

This law also made others look at African Americans as people and not as slaves. It showed that they have the same rights as whites, they are citizens of the U.S.A. and are allowed to vote.

Who was supposed to benefit from this?

This change was needed because, blacks are still people, it doesn't matter about your color. Everyone is equal, no one is better than someone else, we should all have the same rights, and have control over our life. We should be able to do what we want to, we can try to convince people into or out of something, but we can never force anyone into anything.

The African Americans were supposed to benefit from this amendment, and I think they did. It affected the African Americans because it finally allowed them to vote, so that they can share their thoughts on the important decisions that needed to be made.

Who was supposed to benefit from the amendment ?

The U.S. government were the people who made and passed this law, they were trying to complete what Abraham Lincoln had started, to abolish slavery forever, let them have liberty, freedom and have equal rights as the whites.

Who was behind it?
