The 14th Colony

Government

The leader or owner of Georgiana is Bryce Calhoun. Our colony is a democracy in a way that everyone votes. Some laws that are needed to be made are made by the leader but others that are less important are voted on by the colonists. Everyone has a say in our government no matter who you are, if you are rich or if you are poor. This is a great way to govern over the colonists because everyone gets to vote and since everyone is voting for what they want they at least get a say. Unless the leader overides the voters because he thinks that it was not a good decision or he thinks there is a better way then the voters won't get what they want.

How will it be financed?

What kind of people will be living there?

How will the people get there and at what time of year?

What kind of supplies will they need to bring?

Culture

The colony will get it's money from the river and how well they use it to trade. People from the more eastern colonies looking for somewhere else to settle will come here. The easiest time to travel would be during the spring because the weather will be calm and peaceful. They will need to bring wood for boats, because people are going to want to get to work right away. Metals for equipment, for example chopping down trees and also other needs.

Economy

Some children would go to school to learn and others would be apprentices of/ for there fathers and would take on the job that there father was doing. For fun the colonists would play hide and seek because it was a forest area. They would also play marbles and tag. Others would through parties and have dances. Mainly Catholics and Puritans would settle here because these religions were popular in the eastern colonies and were brought west to Georgiana.

As a colonist living in Georgiana there are multiple jobs to do. You can be a fisherman and eat, trade and sell your fish. You can work in the ports and navigate traffic in which you will be payed by the owner of the colony. You can be a tax collector for the owner, it doesn't offer big pay but it is still a job. You can work in shops and make and sell items for people to use, show and wear. Lastly you can be a farmer who produces food and crops for the colony.

Sadly our colony does have slaves, which is a wrong and unjust decision by the owner. Although there are reasons to back this up. If we did not have slaves then the triangle trade would not be complete and if it wasn't complete England said they wouldn't trade with us.

What is the description of your colony?

Our colony mainly trades our crops and wood for metals. Some examples of the crops we grow and trade are peas, carrots, lettuce and cotton. We normally trade with England, but sometimes we will trade with other countries in Europe if England cannot supply what we need.

Jamestown is a colony that would compare to Georgiana because of the success from both. Just like Jamestown in the beginning when both were becoming colonies, Jamestown was attacked by Natives which almost lead to there failure, but then more settlers came with supplies to help, which happened in both colonies. What made Georgiana better was that it was lucky and disease didn't spread, but also Jamestown was built on a marsh which hurt it because the water was salt water and it was undrinkable. Also the salt water made early colonists unable to farm so some of the colonists would eat anything, even humans.

It will be like a normal colony the shops will be spread out though some near the ports and some far away. Houses will be all over the place offering a safe place for anyone anywhere. The houses will be built on stilts to prevent flooding from the river and ocean. The fort or wall will surround the whole colony offering protection all around it.

Introduction

Relationship with The Native Americans

The new colony Georgiana surrounds multiple rivers. It is called Georgiana because it was named after King George the first, who was, at the time the King of England.

Since the colony is on a river and ocean there will be plenty of fish and other wildlife for colonists to eat. We do not have a good relationship with the natives, they are constantly attacking us but it seems that now we have put up the wall there attacks have become less frequent. They are very annoyed with us moving here but we also need a place to go so we came here, we didn't take there land we just became there neighbors, but they fear we will one day overpower them and take there land as well. People are kind and not greedy always sharing with the other colonists.

If we can get many new colonists to move here, then each and everyone of them will be successful. One reason is that there are many jobs and things that need to be done, for example handling boats, shops and ports.

Physical Features

Another reason why you should move here is because there are many rivers and areas along the rivers to build houses for people to live in.

One problem the colony has is there are no mountains nearby and we cannot get any metals. So we use our river to grow crops and catch fish. We then trade the crops and fish to gain metals to advance our tools, to make us stronger.Another problem that the colony used to have was the native americans were continuously attacking us. Since we are in a forest area and there are a lot of trees we chopped the trees down for wood and built a wall around our colony to protect us and further our survival as a colony.

History Of The Colony

Bryce Calhoun was looking for a new place to start a colony. He decided to settle on a river were it branched out into the ocean. He was trying to move west to make the eastern colonies less crowded, but also he just wanted to explore. After exploring the new land west he realized that the river would be very profitable to live on, so he setup there.

The last reason why you should move here is because there is room for advancement and ways to make the colony prosper. The rivers will give us a huge advantage over the other colonies because we can grow crops with the water trade throughout our ports and use the river for its food by catching fish.

In 1635 Bryce Calhoun explained to many different colonies and people in the east how profitable it would be to move west and so the migration began hundreds of people left there old colonies and headed west. The colony was founded in 1640 by Bryce Calhoun. In 1641 houses, shops, schools and ports were built to support and house the new people of Georgiana. Many people now had jobs and places to work. Crops were also planted to help the food shortage and others caught fish. In 1642 the crops had grown and there were many different kinds, some to feed the families and others were just cash crops. The cash crops were traded for money and metals. The colony could not get metals because they were located on a river near the ocean. 1644 the advancement in tools began to rapidly grow, there were many shops making harpoons, shovels, boats, fishing rods and hand held plows.

The colony's advancement in tools is what really led to there success because it made them much stronger and richer than the other colonies.
