“In its simplest form architecture is rooted in entirely functional considerations, but it can reach up through all degrees of value to the highest sphere of spiritual existence into the realm of pure art.”
This sentence summarized what had become Mies van der Rohe’s consistent approach to design: to begin with functional considerations of structure and materials, then to refine the detailing and expression of those materials until they transcended their technical origins to become a pure art of structure and space.

Riehl House
opens to the landscaped garden
by the front that shares
the containment wall
The first at the top which is
in turn subdivided into small garden spaces
to remind us about the French gardens
during the early nineteenth century
The second in the bottom of the terrain with more
"wild" vegetation giving it a natural look
A huge wall of containment creates a higher level for the gardens and at the same time, forms a platform on which the house seems to rest, and accentuating the contrast between the gardens lined up at the top and the vegetation of the slope of the bottom.
placed at one end of the small pond, the sculpture is reflected not only in the water but also in the marble and glass, thereby creating the sensation that it is multiplied in space, while its curves contrast with the geometrical purity of the building.
