The Immigration Act of 1917

Passing this bill allowed the goververment to regulate who entered the country, at the time with world one going on, the US congress was afriad of bringing criminals and political dictators.

On February 4, 1917, the United States Congress passed the Immigration Act of 1917 law after two-third votes from congress to override the presidebt veto.

the law becoms into affect four day later, afetr congress overrid it.

The goverment had a literacy test to determine this new immgrant alien futurs in the US.

the law limite the umber of immigrants that are allowed to enter the United States, this act was introduce into congress by Johnson of Washington State, chairman of the house committee on immigration law.

President Woodrow Wilson's December 14, 1916 veto.
