Amerigo Vespucci Was born on March9,1451in Florence,l Italy.Amerigo Vespucci founded South America and The West Indies.On May10,1497,he went on his 1st voyage.On May16,1499 he launched his 2nd voyage with Alonzo De Ojeda set off for Cape Verde.Ojeda and Vespucci crossed the Equator and traveled to the coast of Guiana and went to the coast of Brazil.On his 3rd voyage in 1501 he discovered present day Rio De Janeiro and Rio De La Plata.He also Discovered the continent South America but called it the New World. In 1507 America was named after him.Amerigo Vespucci became a naturalized citizen of Spain in 1505. His parents Ser Nastagio and Lisebetta Mini were friends with the Medici's,a wealthy family who ruled Italy from the 1400's to 1737.In the late 1490's Vespucci became affiliated with merchants that supplied Christopher Colombus on his later voyages.Vespucci's 3rd Voyage was his most successful.On February22,1512 Amerigo Vespucci died in Seville,Spain of Malaria.Still today he is remember for America.
