Origins of Taoism

• started as a philosophy but it wasn't until after 220 CE when it was recognized as a religion
• two prominent philosophers of taoism are Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu
• Both of these philosophers separately wrote 2 important pieces outlining the teaching of the Tao Te Ching.
• The main regions where Taoism is practiced today is in the eastern world in countries such as China and Taiwan
