Rising Action

The climax of the story is when Jaron gives his identity to the pirates when he tries to protect his friend Imogen from getting whipped my the pirates. Devlin, the pirate king, puts Imogen and Jaron in the jail, but is interuppted by Jaron challenging Devlin to a sword duel. The climax continues to when Roden and Jaron duel, but Roden surrenders because he has no future being the pirate king.

Jaron leaves Carytha to try and sneak into Avenia under enemy lines alone. Jaron has his friend Tobias who looks like him impersonate and pretend to be Jaron so that no one goes to look for him. Jaron is able to get to the pirate's hideout undetected and pretends to be a commoner that would like to be a pirate.

Falling Action

After Roden goes back to Cartyha with Jaron, the group is greeted by the many of the Carythian citizens cheering for Jaron's brave actions. Prior to the event, no one respected Jaron and thought he was a terrible king. However, this changed when Jaron performed a brave deed by taking down the pirates by himself.

Setting

The setting takes place in Carytha, a landlocked in city who has a young, inexperienced king. The story takes place over a few months.

Theme #1

The first theme of the story is that individuals should take the initiative and go do things that other people would not have done. In the novel, King Jaron did an action that everyone- including his friends- believed was very dumb to do; however, he did what we could and made it out of the situation, alive, and helped his kingdom.

Resolution

Characters

The story comes to an end when Carytha's problems are taken care of the kingdom is happy for their brave king.

Jaron (or Sage) is the young king who's father has recently passed away.

Roden was once Jaron's friend when they were both adopted by Bevin Conner, however they grew up and became enemies due to the fact that

Imogen helped Jaron to get the throne when a new king needed to be chosen. She becomes Jaron's friend when she helps him escape the pirates.

Gregor is his "advisor" and is one of King Jaron's regents. In all actuality, Gregor is undercover and is actually working for the pirates and helping them get information.

Theme #2

Another theme showed in the story is that people must think things through. "Sage? Devlin, forgive my acusataion, but you are a fool. Don't you know who this is?... This is Jaron, the lost prince of Carthya." This shows how Jaron was careless in creating a fake name, and eventually one of the pirates figured out who he was.

Conflict

"Our army is too weak to fight through Avenia to get to the pirates. We must find another way." The main conflict is that Cartyha is about to be attacked by the pirates, but the pirates are stationed in enemy territory and it is hard to reach them.
