Garret Graves is a Baton Rouge native, and he grew up in the Catholic Church. He is a husband, a father of three, and an outdoorsman. As your congressman he has been committed to protecting Louisiana’s values, culture, and way of life.
In the scope of the economy, Graves seeks to continue to make the Federal government more accountable for their actions and supports the reduction of federal spending to balance our budget. The government should also be less of an obstacle to small businesses and is an advocate for reducing tax rates and excessive regulations.
Louisiana is home to the largest port system in the US and in the world! Trade policy, diplomacy and a strong national defense influence America’s relationships with the world. As your representative Graves will continue to support a foreign policy (including foreign aid ) that promotes our national interests.
National security is arguably the most important role of the federal government, so it is crucial that we maintain a powerful national. The current administration policy is to reduce our Armed Forces to pre-World War II levels. Congress must do its part to protect and promote the national defense, and Graves will support funding and policies that preserve our force as the greatest of all time.
Graves is committed to upholding the powers given to us, the people, by the Constitution and that includes protecting our 2nd Amendment right. There are important factors to promoting our national security, but that shouldn't necessarily start with gun control.
With increasingly rising insurance premiums that are becoming harder to pay for and offer less health coverage, Graves, so he is all for initiating an alternative to the Affordable Care Act that gives the patients more power while allowing them to choose their own doctors.
Before his election to the U.S. House, Garret had served six years on Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal’s cabinet as Chairman of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA), as a senior policy advisor to the governor on energy, environment, fisheries, and disasters.
Graves successfully restructured the state’s coastal programs (such as hurricane protection and coastal restoration). Also, under Graves' leadership, the CPRA developed a national model for an integrated coastal Master Plan designed to fulfill infrastructure, environmental and economic needs of the state, which has since been unanimously accepted by the LA legislature.
