The lower classes

Skilled Labor

Persia Social Structure

  • Craftsmen, peasant and traders
  • Not the same privileges
  • Free
  • Worked for themselves or nobles
  • Wars
  • Was common in ancient Persia.
  • Workers were paid
  • Decoration
  • Pottery

Women's role within the Empire

Although Persian society was patriarchal women were allowed to divorce men and they were allowed to pick who their spouse was and in fact woman were allowed to serve in the military. Which is extremely progressive for the time.

The Rural Areas

The Different Classes

The people who lived in rural areas were usually peasants and were usually tied to their land which was owned by nobles. Their were some slaves in the countryside and there were other artisans and craftsmen but the majority were farmers who were either independent(This was rare) or tied to the Noble's land

The importance of religion

The social structure was made up of kings, priests/ Aristocracy, military, traders, craftsmen and farmers.

The Bureaucrats were usually very prominent and quite wealthy and

definitely crucial to the empire but they were not powerful enough to challenge the military.

This society was very rigid.

  • Huge influence
  • Advisors to the emperor
  • Emperors decisions

The Higher classes

  • King, priests, royal family, military people and aristocrats
  • Royalty titles
  • Importance of religion
  • Military administration --> empire
