-Nick attempts to hold a large funeral for Gatsby and expects for a lot of people to show up because so many people came to his parties.
-Nick desperately tries to get anyone who knew Gatsby to come to the funeral and calls everyone that he knows was close to him but everyone refuses.
-Gatsby's funeral was fairly small and not that many people showed up to it, but Gatsby's father, Henry Gatz, showed up and was proud of all that his son had accomplished once he saw Gatsby's house.

-The Roaring 20's were a time after the war where the economy and life in America flourished.
-This is seen in The Great Gatsby with the extravagant parties which Gatsby throws during the summer which helps represent this time period as a whole.
-World War I had just finished at the start of Gatsby and many men had fought in the war.
-Both Gatsby and Nick had fought in World War I which is what they talked about when they first met.

Roaring 20s
-Nick Carraway is introduced as the narrator of the story and it is set in "West Egg", New York City.
-Nick is invited by his cousin Daisy over to lunch in "East Egg", New York City.
-Daisy, Nick, Tom, and Jordan have lunch together at the Buchanan's as they talk about various things and Gatsby's name is also mentioned.
-Gatsby offers Nick to join in his business and Nick invites Daisy over for tea.
-Daisy and Gatsby see each other again for the first time in five years and things start off slow and awkward.
-Eventually Daisy and Gatsby begin to hit it off again as their love is rekindled and Gatsby gives Daisy a tour of his house.
-Nick describes the large parties which Gatsby throws many nights during the summer.
-A chauffeur showed up to Nick's house with an invitation to Gatsby's next party and Nick described the party as an amusement park as he attempted to meet Gatsby all night.

-Tom Buchanan talks about this book with Nick during lunch and shows how he is a Racist and believes that the white race should be supreme.
-The book in The Great Gatsby that Tom mentions is called "The Rise of the Coloured Empires" and Tom tries to argue with Nick that it is all scientific when really it is simply racism and this shows how bad racism was during this time.

this time as he started the
Standard Oil Company and
became rich.
-He is related to Gatsby and
many others in the story who
were trying to become rich as

Living the American Dream
-The American Dream was to go from "rags to riches" and the idea that anyone
could be wealthy if they tried.
-This is seen with Gatsby
because he once lived a
life of poverty when he was younger but has now became very wealthy so he could be characterized as living the American Dream.

-Gangsters and Racketeering were common during the 1920s and many men were a part of it.
-George Wilson would be considered a gangster as he hunted down and killed Gatsby after he thought that he had killed Myrtle.

-Tom, Myrtle, and Nick ride around town for a little while and Myrtle has Tom buy her a dog.
-Eventually they go to an apartment and have a small party with alcohol where Nick gets drunk for the second time ever and finds out Tom is abusive to Myrtle as he breaks her nose.
-Nick goes over to Gatsby's house and he tells him about his history with Daisy.
-Gatsby's gardener tells him that he is going to close the pool but Gatsby tells him to wait a day because he wants to use at least once.
-Nick cuts things off with Jordan.
-George Wilson continues to hunt down the person who killed Myrtle and eventually is lead to Gatsby's after talking to Tom.
-George Wilson shoots Gatsby and kills him while he is floating in his pool then proceeds to shoot and kill himself.
-Nick shows up to Gatsby's to find him dead.
-Nick finds out that Gatsby's real name is James Gatz and that he changed it to Jay Gatsby.
-Nick also finds that Gatsby grew up in poverty and was not always this rich.
-Gatsby invites Tom and Daisy to dine with him and they have dinner at his house.
-Tom and Daisy go to one of Gatsby's parties but this time the party is much different than the others and Gatsby is upset when Daisy doesn't have a good time.
