Lev Vygotsky

Social Development (1934) focuses on cognitive and social interaction

relates to the book by:

- focuses on the most important influence is social

- Vygotsky agrees that people learn better by others

- has developed a sociocultural approach to cognitive development.

- He believes social learning comes before development

Chapter 7: Learning to Be Social

• Family teaches children how to live within a society.

• Rewards and punishments are important to children -values

• children need to be praised for their accomplishments

• often feel a lack of commitment by their parents
