Middle School For Dummies

Jeannie Williams

The Dynamics

8th Graders and 6th Graders are almost always friends. This is because the majority of people are two years apart from their siblings. 7th Graders are like the weird cousins of the family no one likes to talk about.

The first day of school, all of the 8th Graders (and some of the 7th Graders) enjoy tormenting the new 6th Graders. It only lasts a week or so. The best thing for a 6th Grader to do during this time period is keep their head down and focus on making friends in their grade. The only time it's a good idea for a 6th Grader to befriend someone older at the beginning of school is if they know them from outside of school.

Good news for nerds everywhere: No one ever gets thrown into trashcans at JHMS.

The First Day

Intro

  • Find people you knew from last year. If you just moved here, seek out someone you've seen in your neighborhood and introduce yourself. Having a friend at the bus stop isn't always so bad
  • I know it's cliche, but just be yourself. You don't want to get a bad rep on the first day.
  • Let others know what you're interested in and and you'll find friends with similar interests.
  • Pay attention in class. Your grades don't mean absolutely nothing.

Some people say that middle school is the worst time of your life, but I disagree. It can be the best time if you think about everything positive that comes from it.

Moving on to High School

My three years in middle school have taught me a lot. I've learned to be organized, resilient and a bunch of other good qualities. I hope that this presentation teaches others about what they need to know to survive middle school.

I've learned so many things in middle school that will help me in high school.

The "tough" teachers have taught me how to persevere.

The nice ones have taught me how to be forgiving.

The scary teachers have taught me to stand up for myself.

The absolutely miserable "oh-woe-is-me" teachers have taught me how I don't want to end up

Get

Organized

Being organized can benefit you in many ways.

  • Easier to get things done
  • Makes getting good grades possible

Academics

It's important to keep good grades. If you have good grades, you can participate in more school activities, keep your parents happy and get to hang out with your friends more.
