The 12 Types of Commercials

1. Demonstration; this type of commercial shows how a product works. This is effected if you are comparing two products.

2. Testimonials; these are used to add credibility to a claim. People get more interested in a product when a costumer talks about it and says that they like it.

3. Stand-up Presenter; is also known as a "talking head" or "pitchman". In this type of commercial the actor stands before the camera and gives straightforward sales pitch on the virtues of the product.

4. Slice-of-life; it's a small skit centered around two or more people and a story involving the product.

5. Life-style Advertising; this type of commercial focuses on the user and how the product fits into their life-style.

6. Animation; a great way to sell products to children but not good with adults.

7. Jingles; a slogan set to music.

8. Visual as Hero; a commercial treated as film when they make it and they're not trying to sell anything.

9. Humor; your goal is to make them laugh. The make up little skits at like Wendy's or Subway so they're entertaining.

10. Continuing Characters; a fictional person who appears in a series of commercials and print ads.

11. Reason-why Copy; a list of reasons why people should buy the product.

12. Emotion; commercials that use nostalgia, charm, or sentimentality to tug at your heart strings and wallet.
