It established that indian nations were just that, not independent nations, and that they had to answer to the country that enveloped them.
This case was overturned by the ruling of Worcester vs Georgia
This case began in 1830 with the Cherokee Nation's request for an injuction against Georgia in order to stop the laws that stripped the Cherokee of their rights. The case ended in 1831 when the Supreme Court ruled in favor georgia. This case presented much controversy and led up to the Trail of Tears.
Georgia argued that they could have these laws against the Cherokee Nation.
The court said that they could not rule on this case because the Cherokee Nation could not request an injuction because they are not an independent nation.
The Cherokee Nation requested an injuction against the State of Georgia because their rights were being taken away and they could be forced off of their land. They did this because they said they were an independent nation and their rights could not be taken away by the government. They cited several treaties that they made with the US goernment.
