Why Woodlawn would be a great school for your child

Woodlawn is a school devoted to your childs learning. Woodlawn has several oppitunites for child to express themselves and show their talents. All of Woodlawns students are kind and willing to help with any problems. I am very sure woodlawn would be the perfect school for your childs learining.

Special events at Woodlawn

Woodlawn has a range of wonderful events throughout the year for students to show their talents. One of the biggest would be the twilight swimming carnival held at the start of the year. Woodlawn also has the athletics carnival, cross country and st Johns day.

College houses

The woodlawn houses are all named after important people in woodlawns history.

Segrief- named after Father Thomas Segrief the first rector of the school

Bell- named after Father James Bell the second rector of Woodlawn

Carrol- named after Bishop John Carrol founder of the college

Kennedy- named after Father Kennedy the third rector of Woodlawn

Symbols of Woodlawn

The college crest represents the history and strength of Woodlawn. The eagle is a symbol of St John. The AM represents thw words " Ave Maria" which means "Hail Mary". The star is also another symbol of Mary.

The college moto "Tenete Traditions" means to hold fast to the traditions

Marist Charism

St Johns collge Woodlawn is a Marist school. So it has some special qualities most schools do not such as

WOODLAWN HISTORY

Woodlawn was founded in 1931 by Bishop John Carrol and Marist fathers. It was built on land that a woman Margret Buckley had generously donated for the school. At first It was opened as an all boys boarding school but later welcomed day boys and then eventually becoming and unisex school. The first rector was Thomas Segrief
