Rabbi Solomon Schonfeld

In 1938, he created the Chief Rabbi's Religious Emergency Council which brought Orthodox rabbis and teachers to England.

That winter, he brought 250 children from Vienna. Until homes were found for them, he housed them in his house and in schools.

Later, he founded a academy so that he could save more children.

After he brought Jews to England, he found them kosher homes, schools, and jobs.

Before the worst of Hitler's regime began, he secured visas for 500 rabbis and synagogue officials to come to the UK with their families.

After Kristallnacht, he brought 500 children and adults to the UK.

He tried to convince the British government to bomb Auschwitz. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful.

He was born in 1912, and when the Nazis rose to power he was the head of a Jewish community in north London. It became clear to him that Jews needed to leave Germany because of the major anti-semitism there.

In 1946, he traveled to Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen concentration camps to help survivors and set up new communities.

After the war, he worked in DP camps in the British zone.

Also, he traveled to Poland and Czechoslovakia to bring orphans to England.

Throughout WWII, he was able to bring around 3,500 Jews to England.
